NASS to Publish Farm Labor Report

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will publish the biannual Farm Labor report on Thursday, May 17 at 3 p.m. EST. NASS interviewed nearly 12,000 farmers and ranchers across the United States to obtain information on the number of agricultural workers, hours worked, and wage rates at the national and regional levels. The information in this report has many uses, including ensuring that the Department of Labor make accurate decisions about its H-2A program, which allows the department to issue certificates to agricultural producers, allowing admission of temporary non-immigrant alien farm workers for seasonal farm labor.

NASS to Publish Barley and Sorghum Agricultural Chemical Use Data

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will publish the 2011 Agricultural Chemical Use survey data for barley and sorghum on May 16, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. NASS gathered data in 13 states for barley and six states for sorghum during the fall of 2011.The information released will include on-farm use of commercial fertilizers, agricultural chemicals, and integrated pest management practices by producers of barley and sorghum.

NASS Issues Correction to Agricultural Safety Report

Due to errors that were not detected before the April 5th release of "2009 Agricultural Safety: Injuries to Youth on Farms," NASS is issuing a revised report. Although the errors impact specific data estimates, they do not impact the illustrated trend of decreasing injuries to youth on farms in the United States between 2001 and 2009. The impacted data are identified in the report with asterisks. This report is a cooperative effort between NASS and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and is available at http://bit.ly/AgSafety2009.

National Agricultural Statistics Service's April 16 Reports Are Delayed

Release of today's regularly scheduled 4:00 p.m. weekly Crop Progress report as well as the 3:00 p.m. Turkey Hatchery, Hatchery Production Annual Summary, and Potato Stocks reports from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Board (ASB) are delayed. We expect to release the reports tomorrow, Tuesday April 17, at their previously scheduled times.

NASS Discontinues Dairy Products Prices Report

Effective this month, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is no longer releasing its weekly Dairy Products Prices report. Going forward, these data will be collected and published by USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) as outlined in the amended Dairy Product Mandatory Reporting Program, required by the Mandatory Price Reporting Act of 2010.

NASS to Release the Agricultural Safety Report

USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will release the Agricultural Safety: 2009 Injuries to Youth on Farms report on Thursday, April 5, at 3 p.m. EDT. This report was produced as a cooperative effort between NASS and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The report will present data on injuries to youth on farms, 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2009. This report and all NASS reports are available at www.nass.usda.gov

NASS Announces 2012 Crop Progress Reports Will Begin April 2

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announces that the 2012 weekly crop progress and condition estimates will begin Monday, April 2. The reports, which continue through the core U.S. growing season each year, estimate the progress and condition of a variety of crops through various stages of development. Crop Progress reports are available at the state level and are of interest to those involved in all aspects of agriculture, produce and commodities markets, and other food- and farm-related topics. NASS publishes the results of this survey weekly on Mondays at 4:00pm (ET) from April through November. All NASS reports are available online at www.nass.usda.gov.

NASS Announces 2012 Apple In-Season Forecast Schedule

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced today the schedule for the 2012 apple in-season data collection and the release of the apple in-season forecast. NASS will contact apple producers from late July to early August to gather information about the 2012 apple crop. The results of this survey will be published on August 10 as part of the August Crop Production report and will provide important information about expected production of the current season's crop. NASS Announces 2012 Farm Labor Report Schedule

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced today the schedule for the 2012 agricultural labor data collection and the Farm Labor report releases. In 2012, NASS will conduct the survey in April and October, with the results published on May 17 and November 15 respectively. The survey will ask producers to provide data for both the current and previous quarters. NASS will continue to publish quarterly data to ensure it is easily comparable to the previously published reports. The past Farm Labor reports are available online at www.nass.usda.gov.

NASS Changes Frequency of In-Season Fruit and Vegetable Reporting

NASS continues to review its agricultural estimates program to ensure the agency provides the most accurate, timely and useful data, while also remaining within the agency budget. As a result, NASS will make a number of changes to its in-season reporting for this year.

North American Potatoes Release Rescheduled

The Agricultural Statistics Board has rescheduled tomorrow???s anticipated 3:00 p.m. release of the North American Potatoes. The new release date is Monday, January 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. EST. This publication is the result of a joint effort by NASS and Statistics Canada to provide producers with additional information about potato production in North America. The release includes area planted and harvested, yield, production, utilized production, market year average price, and value of sales for both countries, combining U.S. fall potatoes only and Canada all potatoes.
